About This Publication
This Symposium volume presents abstracts, articles, and road logs by participants who attended a forum in Austin on industrial minerals that was hosted by the Bureau and cosponsored by the Texas section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, & Exploration (SME). Technical sessions addressed advancements in industrial mineral technology, the geology of industrial minerals, transportation, regulation and logistics of industrial minerals, and the mining and processing of industrial minerals.

Road logs of half-day excursions to Acme Brick Co. in Elgin, Austin White Lime Co. in Austin, Old Castle aggregate mine in Marble Falls, and other areas in Central Texas, are included. Two separate full-day field trips featured tours of cement plants and historical cement production sites in San Antonio and the Coldspring Texas Granite quarry (site of the Town Mountain Granite mined for the State Capitol), an underground limestone mine operated by the J. M. Huber Corporation in Marble Falls, and hydraulic fracturing sand resources at the U.S. Silica operation in Voca.
