The Devonian-Mississippian transition outcrops of central Texas are here described summarily and assigned to a new stratigraphic unit, the Houy Formation. The beds included are mainly Upper Devonian, but partly Lower Mississippian. Locally a basal fraction may be Middle Devonian.
